USF Survives Annual Zombie Takeover

With NERF guns held tight, the students of the University of Sioux Falls defended their campus another year against the zombies.

The O.Z. or original zombie is tasked with infecting as many players as possible. The humans, must then protect themselves, while competing in various challenges to stay ahead of the zombie army.

“There are missions every night where there are tasks that you are assigned to complete, and then a lot of people will probably die at those tasks,” says Molly Briney, human.

In order to escape the zombies, Briney says the trick is to remove your shoes. “I can run faster without my shoes on. I am always looking around, so I’m a little paranoid,” says Briney.

Through a lottery system, junior Travis Balt was selected has the O.Z.

“It was kind of a surprise to me honestly because, I never expected it. I was ready to be a human and I got my Nerf guns and had my sock bombs all ready to go,” Balt says.

Comparing his success in the game to previous years, Balt thoughts that game went really well, for the zombies.

“I was a very strong OZ because I got ten people within the first couple of hours of playing,” Balt says.

Humans vs. Zombies is an annual event. This year, participants had the chance to win a NERF Mega Mastodon just for signing up and attending the pre-game meeting.

In the end, the zombies conquered the humans. This year’s epidemic may be over, but fear not, the infection will return next spring.
