The Vessel is the student news media organization of the University of Sioux Falls. Created by students for the USF community, we share the stories, ideas and experiences that shape life on campus.
Through reporting, interviews, photography, video and other forms of digital storytelling, The Vessel gives students opportunities to develop practical media skills while keeping readers informed about university life.

Our mission is to provide accurate, engaging and responsible student journalism that informs the campus community, encourages thoughtful conversation and celebrates the people who make the University of Sioux Falls special.
Guided by USF’s Culture for Service tradition, we seek to use communication in ways that serve others, strengthen community and reflect integrity. The university’s broader mission emphasizes academic excellence, Christian development and service to God and humankind.
What We Cover
The Vessel documents the full USF experience, including:
- Campus news affecting students, faculty and staff.
- Cougar athletics, from practices and profiles to major competitions.
- Arts and entertainment, including theatre, music and campus productions.
- Clubs and student activities that bring the community together.
- Interviews and profiles highlighting students, alumni, faculty and staff.
- USF history and stories from the university’s archives.
- Opinion and commentary representing thoughtful student perspectives.
- Multimedia storytelling through photography, audio and video.
Student-Led Media
The Vessel is a place for students to learn by doing. Contributors gain experience in reporting, writing, editing, interviewing, photography, broadcasting, digital publishing and audience engagement.
