St. Johns Bible Visits USF Campus

The St. Johns Bible has been on campus for almost a full year now. Which means it’s time to say goodbye. The Bible arrived last December and will be completely shipped back to the University of Minnesota.

The Bible was created by 23 different artists around the world. It consists of 7 books and 160 illuminations. “The illuminations amplify what we see” says USF’s own Dennis Thum. One of the coordinators who made it possible for USF to host the Bible. Nancy Olive was also a big part of bringing this exquisite artwork to campus.

Nothing has been created on a scale this large for the past 500 years. So what goes into making such an outstanding piece of art? The pages are made from vellum (calf skin), the calligraphers used handmade quill pens along with 130 year old ink made from candle smoke, as well as 12 years of prestigious creativity.
