USF Men’s Basketball Tip Off the Season
After a pair of heartbreaking losses the University of Sioux Falls Men’s Basketball Team looks to move forward for the remainder of the season. The cougars faced Emporia State and Fort Hayes State, both members of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association.
In the first round of the tournament, USF faced off against Emporia State with an ending score of 101-94 in favor of the hornets. This left the cougars with a 0-1 record to begin the season.
In the second round, Fort Hayes State barely outshot the cougars ending with a score of 78-80. The loss dropped USF to 0-2 for the start of the season.
Head coach Chris Johnson says he is excited to begin the season.
“It’s always fun to play against someone else, they get sick of practicing with each other everyday” says Johnson.
Johnson says why these two opening games were so important.
“They are really important games, they are part of the MIAA Northern Sun Challenge. Last year we split with those teams we beat Emporia by four and lost to Fort Hayes on a buzzer beater,” says Johnson.
In years past the cougars have had similar results while playing these two teams.
“Even though they are the first games of the year they are important for regional rankings later on in the year,” says Johnson.
