Students Spread Political Awareness

Story by Amy Elston

The University of Sioux Falls is taking notice of the upcoming elections by beginning their own college Republicans and Democratic groups. Representatives from both parties give College Daily an overview of their goals for their groups.

“The goal is of this club is to be equitable across the party lines and to encourage folks who don’t know what they’re voting for.”

Steve Horan, advisor of the Republican group, gives in insight on the meetings they’ve had thus far.

“We generally talk about the hot topics in the legislature and of course the presidential election too, talking about the pro’s and con’s.”

Ceca Cooper, advisor of the Democratic group, discuss what prompted her to begin one.

“I heard there was a student Republican group so I decided to put the word out to see if anyone was interested.”

Students of the groups also share their interest in the election.

“I knew Augie’s group was really involved in their community and I wanted to spread political awareness and I think it’s important to have a group like this.”
