Dance the Night Away

Story by Zachary Brown

As the spring semester winds down, USF’s second annual Dancing With the Stars is in full swing. The competition began on March 18 and is continuing until April 4. Five pairs of USF students are competing to win the cash prize and finish the 2015 – 2016 school year out on a good note. Each pairing has their own choreographer to help them train and develop routines. The four competitions consist of different themes that the couples and choreographers must base their routines and costumes on. The first two themes were 90’s and musical. The only way to find the next two themes is to come and watch on March 30th and April 4th.

Contestants and everyone involved in the event encourage students to come out and support their peers. “Definitely adds to the community, we’re a pretty small school but to have this many people show up today show that we have that unit amongst us, which is what we try to promote,” said USF student and Dancing With the Stars Contestant Connor Bollweg about the importance the audience student involvement. Bollweg’s partner Sophie Harano agrees: “Essential to an USF event is to have students come out and support each other… It gives people something to talk about in between classes.” Along with support, the audience is also a crucial part of the event due to the fact that the audience has 50 percent of the vote. The other half of the vote belongs to the four judges.

Dancing With the Stars has two more competitions: Wednesday March 30 and Monday April 4 at 9 PM. The event provides a fun atmosphere and an exciting way to spend an evening. The event is free admission and everyone is encouraged to come and watch their fellow USF Cougars dance their way to the end of the school year.
