Service Core Host Fall Fest Event
The Service Core at the University of Sioux Falls is always proactive in helping out the Sioux Falls community and having students get involved with service projects. Last Friday, October 28th, the Service Core hosted a Fall Fest event with the help of USF students.
The Service Core invited some kids from the Bowden Youth Center and they took part in a fall night full of games and fun. They could do anything from face-painting to pumpkin painting or a bunch of assorted games to have them win some prizes. Then towards the end of the night, they had them walk through the dorms to have them go trick or treating.
“We want students to come and help, and begin fostering relationships with the Bowden Youth Center.” says Service Coordinator Rachel Qualm. “We want all students on campus to participate and open up there doors, and introduce these kids to the college life.”
Introducing them to the college life would help show them that it is possible to attend college when they grow up, even though they haven’t had much growing up there are people out there who are willing to help.
“The Service Core is really about getting the word out about what is going on in the Sioux Falls Community.”
How are people supposed to know how to help if they don’t they don’t know what to do or when, and the service core does a good job of letting students know when service opportunities are available.
This Fall Fest event was very successful and a good time for all the people involved, but it’s not the only chance that students will have to serve this year. Rachel also told us about an upcoming event around Christmas when students will have an opportunity to make and donate blankets to members of the community.
