Blackmagic Design / DaVinci Resolve

Blackmagic Design is a manufacturing company known for their digital cameras and editing software. The company’s long history in film making has given them credibility to compete with industry leaders. Their expensive cameras may be more affordable for production companies than college students, but their editing software DaVinci Resolve has a free version that can handle large video products.

Resolve’s processing allows it to be used on standard computers and laptops. It was originally known for color correcting and is now known as a complete editing program at an affordable price. Where Adobe requires jumping between Premier Pro and After Effects, Blackmagic’s graphic program Fusion is built into Resolve which is easier to process on the average computer. The main con of Resolve for a college student producing videos are the lack of free graphic templates and LUTs compared to the more popular Premier Pro. The change going from Premier to Resolve is usually quick for many people. There’s plenty of tutorial videos to learn the program.
