USF Hosts Self Defense Seminar

On March 22nd USF students gathered together in the Stewart center to learn about a new way to keep themselves safe throughout their daily lives on campus.

Shannon Donnell, owner of Tiger Rock Martial Arts, says “There’s a lot of self-awareness and common scene, you need to know where you are at is one of the biggest things to keep in mind. Keep your eyes up, don’t have your head down looking at your phone too much when walking somewhere. Just know where you are at.”

Although college is a time of learning and having fun, it is important for students to understand how to defend their selves on their own.

USF student Miranda Kelly says “It is always a good idea to be prepared for something like this if you are in a position where you cannot defend yourself or do not know how. The seminar is also free, making it even better because of how expensive classes can be.”

Whether or not students have experience in self-defense, it is never a bad idea to encourage to try it out for themselves.

Donnell says “The biggest job every day is to get home to your family safely, and that’s why I do what I do, to try and help people understand that.”
