Girl’s Basketball Team Wraps up Season
The University of Sioux Falls Women’s basketball team concluded the regular season with a home double header. They hosted Concordia St. Paul on February 16th and Minnesota State on February 17th.
The USF women’s basketball team took to the floor on Friday, February 16th taking on Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference rival, Concordia St. Paul.
Out of the tip, USF came out strong taking an early lead on the Golden Bears. However, as the game continued, Concordia St. Paul came back and cruised to a 22 point victory dropping the Cougar women at a final of 74 to 56.
USF Head Women’s Basketball Coach Travis Traphagen says the team has been struggling lately.
“You know, all in all, we’ve been struggling here, as of late winning basketball games,” Traphagen says. “I wish I could say that we’re just playing terrible, but we’re not. We’re in a lot of basketball games, but we have to find more ways to get a little more balance.”
Junior forward for the Cougars Jacey Huinker says the team has been through a lot, but they had high hopes for this postseason.
“For the rut we’ve been in right now, I think a lot of people aren’t really expecting a lot for postseason, but I know that this week has been phenomenal of practice,” Huinker says. “The season we’ve had so far, the whole season, has been great so far.”
Huinker says she is excited to see the postseason results for the Cougars.
The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Basketball Tournament, played at the Sanford Pentagon, concluded on Tuesday, February 27th.
