This weeks the top political stories :
1.) Sioux Falls City Council is in the process of creating an outdoor smoking ban in all public areas.
2.) In Washington, Republicans are working to create a health care plan to replace Obamacare. Obamacare currently has healthy and seriously ill people being charged the same insurance rates.
3.) Many farmers believe that Trump’s involvement in NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement) many feel that it would affect sales on corn, beans and dairy. Political officials agree that there needs to be a change in the current agreement, but they cannot come to an agreement.
Professor Steve Horan, the advisor of the College Republicans, discusses how he feels the first one-hundred days of Trump’s candidacy went.
“It’s been interesting, it’s been a challenging one-hundred days,” Horan says.
It does depend on which side of the aisle that you are on, on how you feel that Trump has done.
The accomplishments that Trump has done in his first one-hundred days have been nominating Judge Neil Grouch, made strides to dismantle Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, labeling China as a currency manipulator, the 2017 Shayrat missile strike, introducing a broad outline of a tax reform focusing on deep tax cuts and he signed twenty-four different executive orders.
“Overall, he has met my expectations and his campaign promises. There are certainly somethings that I wanted to have done that still need to be done. Generally, I would say a C to B grade level rating,” Horan says.
Currently, with a 42% approval rating, Trump has the lowest presidential approved rating in his first one-hundred days than any other president in history.
