Feminism and Printmaking Art Exhibits

The University of Sioux Falls Art department welcomed Nancy Olive and Klaire Pearson to exhibit their pieces of art for USF and the surrounding community. Olive’s Contemporary Printmaking is located in Mears Library and Pearson’s “Feminine Attempts” is held in Jeschke’s Art gallery.

Pearson is a graduate from the University of South Dakota who was invited to showcase her art at USF.

Ceca Cooper, an associate professor of art at USF, met with Pearson before her showcase at USF.

“She’s an incredibly talented young woman and it’s really exciting to see a feminist art up there,” says Cooper.

Olive is an art professor at USF who has the chance to share her artwork with the USF community. Cooper praises Olive’s Contemporary Printmaking.

“It’s great to see a printmaker and Nancy did a great job of showcasing her tools,” says Cooper.

Tenley Schwartz, a junior art major at USF, was able to attend Pearson’s art showing of her work “Feminine Attempts”.

“It’s the juxtaposition between female work and the idea that they are also supposed to be very beautiful and put together all the time, even though we are given these really dirty chores to do,” says Schwartz.

Olive talks about how this art exhibit was able to make her a better professor and improve her teaching skills.

“All of these experimentations are really intended to teach me as much as possible about the different techniques, so that I can go in and teach my printmaking students how to do it themselves,” says Olive.

Pearson has a website with more on her artwork including a more detailed take on her pieces. The USF Art department has a Facebook page listing information on when the next art show will occur. Both art exhibits will be available until the next scheduled art show.
