USF Glow Zumba
During the week of February 9th through the 13th, USF hosted their first fitness week. One of the main events held was glow zumba, which took place in Jeschke Jones theatre Thursday night. More than a dozen students participated and were able to enjoy some dancing, combined with fitness and glow sticks.
Nathan Hofer, the activities director, described glow zumba as “Zumba with black lights and glow bracelets and just some stuff to make it more fun.”
With the lights down low and some a combination of Latin music with hiphop; instructor, Diandra Ortman, and student, Angela Robinson, both agreed that turning the lights off and adding glow sticks made it less uncomfortable and more fun.
Diandra Ortman stated, “I think everyone feels a little more comfortable when we got the lights off and the lighting adds an element of extra fun.”
Although campus seemed to almost be in white out conditions, Hofer seemed to be a little bit surprised at the turnout of the event. “This is a pretty good turnout for a zumba event but it looks like we had about 15 or 20 students for a Thursday night when it’s snowing and blizzarding.”
Angela Robinson, student at USF, encourages other students to participate in the next glow zumba session, “Glow zumba is a lot of fun, you get to hang out with your friends and dance and no one knows you’re a bad dance because you’re in the dark. You get awesome glow sticks for free so everyone should come to glow zumba.”
USF has no set date for the next glow zumba, but hopefully after such success a second session will be coming soon.
