USF Partakes in Community Summer Events

While some students may have utilized the summer months for much needed rest and relaxation, the USF campus was buzzing with activity and gave a helping hand to local associations in need of assistance.

USF Events Team coordinator, Amanda Quittem, shared just how much action the University has been involved with this summer.

“We had three New Student Registration Days throughout the summer with anywhere from 30-50 students attending. And there are pretty much three campus tours of prospective students happening every day except Sunday’s,” said Quittem.

The events where USF contributed their own workers to help were numerous as well. The Children’s Care Hospital’s production of Ascent as well as Sioux Falls National Night Out Against Crime are just a couple that featured USF students.

Sioux Falls National Night Out Against Crime, is an annual event where the surrounding Neighborhood Watch community gets together for good food, games, and a fun celebration for a safer neighborhood and community. The event took place on the evening of August 5 and USF contributed four of its student workers for the event, which had about 60 participants.

The Children’s Care Hospital’s production of Ascent was put on in Jeschke Auditorium and directed by USF’s very own Joe Obermueller. Along with the director, USF also contributed six student staff members to help with the production.  Heather Pickering with the Children’s Care Hospital enjoyed working with USF and said, “Joe and his hospitable and welcoming team went above and beyond in assisting us with our production.  To enter into an atmosphere that embraced and met the unique needs of our performers was beyond integral to our success.  We look forward to having the opportunity to work with this team again in the future.”
