USF Students Attend Spanish Undergraduate Research Conference
Students from Briar cliff University, University of Sioux Falls, University of South Dakota, Wayne State College, and Augustana College were part of the Undergraduate conference.
Most students research a Spanish topic they are interested about and present on it. For example Steven Slaubaugh, a University of Sioux Falls student, researched about the expulsion of the Jews from Spain in the 15th century and the different opportunities they had and they didn’t had and were they ended up.
Other students talked about their own personal experiences when they traveled to a Spanish speaking country, for either a semester or a year.
Carlos Vargas Salgado, one of the Co-funders of the undergraduate research conference, talked to us that the main reason they started this conference is to encourage students with either a Spanish major or minor to share their interest and at the same time compare their level of Spanish
Willie Suarez, USF Spanish teacher, says hopefully next year conference will be held at the University of Sioux Falls.
