USF Baseball Fundraiser at Brandon Golf Course
By Alex Krout
As college sports takes a cautious approach to the 2020-2021 season, the University of Sioux Falls baseball team still finds ways to get the yearly funding they need. One of the bigger fundraisers USF holds annually is a golf tournament hosted by the team. This year it will be taking place at the Brandon Golf Course, located right off Aspen Avenue on September 26, 2020. This golf tournament is for anyone willing to play such as alumni, current players and any other family and friends who want to join the tournament. Head coach of USF baseball, Grant Hieb, says fundraising will help with equipment and other expenses the baseball team will have during their upcoming season. Hieb says, “a big chunk of our fundraising is going straight to Florida.” The Florida trip helps the team travel out of state to play some games and practice before the USF Cougars season officially starts.
Other fundraisers like the Raffle shootout and a video sponsor helps the baseball team with fees, trips and equipment. Despite COVID-19 and all the time and energy that goes into making each season work, Head Coach Hieb still enjoys his job. “Being able to work with young student athletes, I mean yeah I like it a lot.” With this attitude and the determination to still have as normal a season as possible, the USF baseball team is trying everything they can to have a fighting chance at playing this upcoming spring.
