Political Update: Issues on Immigration

So far, we’ve talked about higher education, ISIS, health care, and taxes. This week we will be taking a look on where Republicans stand on immigration.

Ted Cruz has recently toughened his “stance” on immigration. The United States currently has 12 million illegal immigrants.

During an interview with Fox News, Cruz says, “Yes, we should deport them”,  and just like Trump, he would like to build a wall and triple border security. Although the same concept, Trumps idea on immigration, however, looks a little bit different.

In an interview with CNN, Trumps says, “It’s all a package. Number one, we’re going to build a wall and it’s going to be a real wall that will be powerful and that people won’t be going up, down, around, or under. Then we’ll get rid of the bad ones [illegals] and they’ll be gone fast. Our prisoners are bursting with illegals right now.”

Trump’s plan is based on 3 core principles: build a wall across the border, fully enforce immigration laws, and immigration plans must improve jobs, wages, and security for all Americans. According to Trump, the Mexico leaders have been taking advantage of the United States by using illegal immigration to export the crime and poverty in their own country, also supporting Trump’s reasons why Mexico should pay for the wall. If Mexico refuses, Trump would begin charging additional fees to Mexicans who come into the U.S. Trumps plan would also call for requiring a nationwide system to verify workers’ legal status, tripling the number of immigrations and customs enforcement agents, and implementing a tracking system to identify people who overstay their visa.
