USF Playoffs

Story by Amy Elston

“This is exciting! Anyone fired up about this?” says Coach Stugart.

“Right now, as I said, in a twenty years career, some of the most incredible memories are football playoffs.  We created some great memories this year, and this is just one more of them.”

The football made USF history this past Sunday as they made it into the playoffs.

“You are one of the twenty-eight teams of this country. You start doing percentages of football players in the country that are still playing and have a shot to win a National Championship and that is a great accomplishment, you have a lot to be proud of!”

Coach Stugart continues to give them advice on reaching their goals, “Shoot for the stars,  if you are going to shot for the moon, shot for the stars, because it is hard to hit everything on all cylinders all the time.”

We sat down with a few players and the coach to talk about their excitement on making it to the playoffs.

“We have a strong team, every one is pretty healthy, so I’m feeling really good about it and I have high hopes for it. We have a really strong team and we are making history right now, just by being in the playoffs. It’s going to be a great time for us,” says  senior David Clark.

“You know as a team we are really excited, especially because of how things went last year they didn’t really go the way we wanted. Now we have our chance at redemption so it’s a really exciting time for us.” says sophomore Max Mickey.

“I think there is a whole wave of emotions, the thing about last year and the disappointment of not making it last year with only one loss and you have that In the thought of finally making it over that hurdle. It was highly emotional and exciting, to see how excited our players were is very gratifying.” says Coach Stugart.

Finally, Stugart gives the players a a word of encouragement before the big game.

“ I think you are a team when you practice well you play well. That’s my challenge to you, is to go out and have a great week at practice.”
