USF Offers Free Exercise Program
March 31st marked the first day of a free 5-week exercise program. Athletic Graduate assistant Jake Steffen is leading students and faculty in this program that will focus on total body fitness. Steffen tells College Week where the idea for free fitness programs began.
“Casey Meile the Dean of Students approached me about doing something like this for the students. I thought it was an awesome idea in terms of the fitness and the wellness and the lifestyle of the students,” says Steffen.
“I kind of came with the idea of doing something simple like this two nights a week where we do intervals and station work. It’s been great attendance so far.”
Senior Alexa Reed, a star USF volleyball player, explains why she has decided to participate in the program.
“One because I’ve retired from USF volleyball and I need to stay in shape, and two because I’m going to California in 7 weeks and I’m going to be in a bathing suit!”
There are 10 total sessions for the total body fitness program. Sessions are held Monday and Thursday nights at 5:30 in the Stewart Center. People can come whenever it’s convenient for them and need not commit to the entire 5-week program.
With summer just around the corner, these free sessions are hard to pass up.
